Through our experience with building high horsepower 5 cylinders we test just about everything. During testing we usually find limits to many parts (OEM and aftermarket included). DAZA based engines are an extremely successful and robust platform to make big power. The OEM PCV/oil separator works wonderfully at stock and highly modified power levels. But, as with anything, there is a capability limit. What we have seen with cars above 900 horsepower is that the OEM PCV breather assembly runs out of flow. This leads to a “back up” of vapors in the crankcase which in turn causes crankcase pressure to go positive. This will only get worse as power levels rise. Alcohol based fuels add to this issue. Positive crankcase pressure causes horsepower loss, oil consumption, possible seal failure as well as a decrease in engine life.
Our kit aims to work WITH the exisiting OEM PCV/separator. This will also work in tandem with your current off-the-shelf catch can. The way we wanted it to work was to add additional flow capacity to the current system rather than deleting the OEM unit completely. Operation is dependent on a PCV/check valve that ONLY works under scenarios where the crankcase pressure rises over 0.5 PSI. At that point the valve opens and releases any excess flow to the vent-to-atmosphere can (Radium). Every vehicle tested showed a flatline of 0.5 PSI crankcase pressure after installation of this kit, ranging from 900hp to 1300hp. We offer an optional crankcase pressure sensor kit. This allows you to do your own monitoring/testing.
